Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to graduate school students enrolled in graduate-level courses that will impact the rural community. Any career field or major is eligible. Scholarship winners will be selected based on school and community involvement, scholastic performance and educational goals.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a son or daughter of a current Northwest FCS customer; OR a son or daughter of an employee of a current Northwest FCS customer (the customer or business name must be on the application in order to be considered).

Grandchildren of Northwest FCS customers or customer employees are not eligible. Children or grandchildren of Northwest FCS employees or board members are not eligible.

College graduate students must:
  • be currently enrolled in master's or doctorate-level courses that will impact the rural community;
  • plan to seek employment in the Northwest; and
  • not be a previous winner of a Northwest FCS Customer Graduate Scholarship.

What you need to do

  1. Obtain a copy of your college transcript and save it as a PDF, using the following naming convention for the filename:  Firstname-Lastname-Transcript.pdf (for example: Sam-Smith-Transcript.pdf). Unofficial photocopies of your transcript are acceptable.
  2. Write an essay. An essay helps the judges learn more about you and your future life plans.

    Essay Instructions

    • Write an essay, no more than a page in length, discussing the following:
      How will you use your education and degree to positively impact rural communities in the Northwest?
    • Save your essay as a PDF, using the following naming convention for the filename:  Firstname-Lastname-Essay.pdf (for example: Sam-Smith-Essay.pdf).
  3. Fill out the online Northwest FCS Customer Scholarship Application form and attach your PDF files.

Selection Criteria

  • Essay – Measured by content and message. (30 points)
  • Leadership Experience – Measured by positions held in student government, civic groups, church groups, or other community groups. (25 points)
  • Extracurricular Activities – Measured by participation in sports, school, and community organizations as well as work experience. (25 points)
  • Academic Achievement – Measured by grades and transcripts. (20 points)
